Acoustic Voice Measures in Benign Mass Lesions

نویسندگان

چکیده مقاله:

Objectives: The present study aims to compare acoustic voice parameters in patients with vocal cord nodules, polyps, and normal subjects.  Methods: In this cross-sectional case-control study, the participants were selected by convenience sampling, including 30 patients with vocal polyps group, 38 patients with vocal nodules for the second group, and 42 participants without voice pathologies as the control group. For each group, participants were examined by a speech and language pathologist (SLP) using an Endo-vision laryngoscope. Acoustic voice parameters were measured by MDVP software in Visi-Pitch; then, these parameters were compared in groups in terms of sex. Results: Three groups showed significant differences in terms of fundamental frequency (P < 0.001), jitter (P < 0.001), shimmer (P < 0.001), and noise-to-harmonic ratio (NHR) values (P < 0.001). Women in three groups had the substantial differences in terms of fundamental frequency (P < 0.001), jitter (P < 0.001), shimmer (P < 0.001), and NHR (P < 0.001). For men, the three groups showed a significant difference for jitter (P < 0.001) and shimmer (P = 0.001), but for NHR (P = 024), no significant difference and fundamental frequency (P = 0.93) were observed.  Conclusion: It seems that the existence of benign mass lesions, such as vocal cord nodules and polyps affects the acoustic parameters of the voice. The measurement of acoustic voice parameters may help us to differentiate between the voices of normal people and patients with vocal cord nodules and polyps as a supplementary assessment in clinical procedures.

Differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions by apparent diffusion coefficient value in mass and non-mass lesions

Background: Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is one of methods in evaluation of breast lesions. We aimed to investigate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in breast tumors and their accuracy in differentiating benign versus malignant lesions. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 72 patients with 88 breast lesions were investigated by 1.5-T breast MRI from 2015 to 2017 in Athari...

the correlation between voice handicap index and specific acoustic measures in patients with muscle tension dysphonia

results certain correlations were found between fundamental frequency in vowel and total vhi, physical, functional and emotional domains of vhi in group 1 (r = 0.636, 0.649, 0.613 and 0.592 respectively). there was good correlation between speaking fundamental frequency and total vhi and its subscales - except the physical subscale - were also correlated. in group 2, the correlations between ji...

Standardization of acoustic measures for normal voice patterns.

UNLABELLED Studies have established that normative data is necessary for acoustic analysis. The aim of the present study is to standardize fundamental frequency measures (fo), jitter, shimmer and harmonic-noise ratio (HNR) for young adults with normal voice. METHOD 20 males and 20 females, between 20 and 45 years, without signs and symptoms of vocal problems; CSL-4300 Kay-Elemetrics; vowels /...

Simulated emotions: an acoustic study of voice and perturbation measures

This brief study presents a set of acoustic correlates for a number of vocal emotions simulated by two actors. Five short sentences were used in the simulations. The emotions simulated were neutral, cold anger, hot anger, happiness, sadness, interest and elation. The seventy sentences were digitised and a number of acoustic analyses were carried out, which included a number of perturbation meas...

Influence of Smartphones and Software on Acoustic Voice Measures

This study assessed the within-subject variability of voice measures captured using different recording devices (i.e., smartphones and head mounted microphone) and software programs (i.e., Analysis of Dysphonia in Speech and Voice (ADSV), Multi-dimensional Voice Program (MDVP), and Praat). Correlations between the software programs that calculated the voice measures were also analyzed. Results ...

Acoustic and aerodynamic measures of the voice during pregnancy.

BACKGROUND Known influences of sex hormones on the voice would suggest pregnancy hormones could have an effect, yet studies using acoustic measures have not indicated changes. Additionally, no examination of the voice before the third trimester has been reported. Effect of pregnancy on the voice is relatively unexplored yet could be quite relevant to female speakers and singers. OBJECTIVES/HY...
